One of the most historical communities lies within the gates of Port Royal, Hilton Head's only private oceanfront residential community. It was here that Captain William Hilton first landed, discovering his future namesake island in 1663, and later where union troops stormed ashore in 1861. Port Royal is home to the luxurious Westin Resort Hotel, as well as to three 18-hole golf courses - the Barony, Robber's Row and Planter's Row. In addition, there are two championship croquet courts and a 16-court racquet club that features all three Grand Slam surfaces: grass, clay and hard court. 

Hilton Head Island is easy to get to from virtually anywhere in the country. If you are traveling by air,  daily commuter flights from various hubs fly directly into Hilton Head Airport with taxi service meeting all flights. The Savannah Municipal Airport in Savannah, Georgia is the  nearest major airport. Serviced by most major airlines, limousine and taxi services to the Island is available to all incoming flights 24 hours a day. Rental cars are also available at both airports.
